This Affordable Birthday Amboseli Safari turns another year into three days of elephants, open plains and a birthday that is anything but ordinary.
Some birthdays call for a party. Others call for getting away together to somewhere big enough to match the occasion. Amboseli is home to one of the best known elephant populations in Africa, close to 1,900 animals at the last full count, and on clear mornings Kilimanjaro stands behind them from across the border in Tanzania. Cloud often covers the mountain later in the day, so your drives start early.
You stay two nights at Sentrim Amboseli, a tented camp on the border of the national park, a few minutes from Kimana Gate. A private safari van with a pop up roof and your own driver guide are yours for the whole trip, from the moment we collect you in Nairobi to the moment we drop you home.
The birthday game happens on day two. At dawn, the birthday person takes the roof and starts counting elephants, one for every year of their life. The morning drive is not over until the count reaches their age. In Amboseli that rarely takes long, but it makes for a morning neither of you will forget. That evening, dinner ends with a cake and candles at a table set just for you.

Where You Sleep: Sentrim Amboseli is a camp of 60 tents on land that borders the national park, about 3 km from Kimana Gate. Short transfers to the gate mean more of your morning is spent watching wildlife and less of it on the road.
Inside the Tent: Tents come with en suite bathrooms, hot showers, a private veranda and a tea and coffee tray. It is canvas living with proper comfort.
Meals Sorted: Your stay is full board, with breakfast, lunch and dinner at the camp restaurant. You never need to think about where the next meal is coming from.
Midday Swim: The outdoor pool is where the hottest hours go. Wildlife slows down at midday in Amboseli, and so can you.
A Sense of Place: Maasai craft and design run through the camp's common areas, a reminder of the community land that surrounds the park.
A Van for Two: A private Toyota Hiace with a pop up roof, plus your own driver guide, for all three days. You set the pace.
Birthday Cake by Candlelight: A cake from the camp kitchen and a candlelit table on your second evening, arranged before you arrive.
Park Fees Taken Care Of: Three daily park tickets for both of you are included, so there is nothing to pay at the gate.

Day 1: Birthday Road Trip
Morning: Out of the City Pickup is at 6:30am from your home or hotel in Nairobi. You head down Mombasa Road to Emali, then south through Kimana, where the fields give way to dry, open country. Keep an eye on the horizon, because Kilimanjaro sometimes appears long before you arrive.
Afternoon: Hello, Amboseli After check in and lunch at Sentrim Amboseli, you enter through Kimana Gate for a first afternoon drive. Elephant herds, zebra and wildebeest spread across the plains as the heat of the day eases.
Evening: Settling In Dinner at camp, then an early night. The birthday game starts at dawn.
Day 2: The Birthday Count
Morning: One Elephant for Every Year You are through the gate as it opens. The birthday person takes the roof and begins the count, one elephant for every year, while the other keeps score. The drive continues until the number is reached, with Kilimanjaro at its clearest in the early light if the cloud allows.
Afternoon: Pool and Plains Back at camp for breakfast, lunch and a lazy stretch by the pool. In the late afternoon you head out again, following the herds as they return from the swamps.
Evening: Cake and Candles Dinner ends with a birthday cake and candles at a table set just for the two of you.
Day 3: One More Year Begins
Morning: Birthday Sunrise A last early drive for the best light of the trip, then back to camp for breakfast and checkout.
Afternoon: The Journey Back You drive north again through Kimana and Emali, stopping for lunch along the way at your own cost.
Evening: Back in Nairobi We drop you at your home or hotel in the late afternoon or early evening, depending on traffic.
