Affordable Anniversary Nakuru Safari | 3 Days 2 Nights
Lake Nakuru Lodge or similar
An Affordable Anniversary Nakuru Safari that belongs to the two of you and nobody else.
Anniversaries have a habit of turning into dinner. A table, a bill, a drive home, and by Tuesday it has folded back into the rest of the year. This one is built to survive longer than that.
You leave Nairobi in the morning in your own van with your own driver, and about three hours later you pass through the gate of Lake Nakuru National Park. From that point on you are inside. Not near the park, not next to it. Inside, where the game drives start at your door and the animals are still moving when everyone on a day trip is already back on the highway.
Lake Nakuru is Kenya's first rhino sanctuary, and it is fenced, which is the quiet reason it works so well for a short trip. Rhino are genuinely hard to find in most of Kenya. Here, over a couple of unhurried drives, you have a real chance with both black and white rhino, alongside Rothschild's giraffe, one of the rarest giraffe subspecies left. Add lion, leopard and buffalo and you have four of the big five in a park you can actually cover in two days.
Your base is Lake Nakuru Lodge, the oldest lodge in the park, sitting above the lake with a pool, a terrace and rooms that open onto their own balcony. Full board throughout, so from the moment you arrive the only decisions left are what time to wake up and whether to take the second cup of coffee onto the balcony.
Three days. Two nights. One vehicle that stays with you the whole time, so nothing on this trip runs to anyone else's schedule.

About Package
More information about this package
Inside the gate, which changes the whole trip: Lake Nakuru Lodge sits within the national park itself rather than in Nakuru town, so your game drives begin the moment you leave the car park. There is no morning queue at the gate and no rush to be out before closing at six, which is the difference between watching wildlife and chasing it.
Kenya's first rhino sanctuary: The park was gazetted as a rhino sanctuary and remains fully fenced, which is why sightings of both black and white rhino are among the most reliable anywhere in the country. It is also one of the few places you will see Rothschild's giraffe, a subspecies with only a few thousand individuals left in the wild.
The oldest lodge in the park: Lake Nakuru Lodge has been here longer than any other property inside the boundary, and part of the original building goes back to a farmhouse from around 1906. The character is old safari rather than new boutique, which suits couples who would rather feel somewhere real than somewhere styled.
Rooms that face outward: All rooms open onto a balcony or patio with lake or escarpment views, with a separate sitting area and a deep soaking bath. There is a pool, a poolside bar, a terrace restaurant and a treatment room on site, so the hours between drives have somewhere to go.
Full board with no menu maths: Breakfast, lunch and dinner are included for both of you across the whole stay. On a trip where the schedule is built around first light and last light, having meals simply appear at the right times matters more than it sounds.
A van that is yours alone: The Toyota Hiace tour van comes with a driver guide and an opening viewing roof, and it stays with you from your Nairobi pickup to your Nairobi drop off. You are not sharing it, not joining a group and not waiting for anyone else to finish photographing something.
Baboon Cliff and the drowned forest: The escarpment viewpoints look down across the whole lake, and the rising water over the past decade has left a stretch of submerged acacia standing in the shallows. Fish eagles and great white pelicans use those bare branches constantly, and it has become one of the most photographed views in the park.
Package Itinerary
The package itinerary is as follows
Affordable Anniversary Nakuru Safari Itinerary with Baecation Adventures from Nairobi
Day 1: Nairobi to Lake Nakuru National Park
Morning: The road out
Pickup from your Nairobi home or hotel at 7:00 am in your private Toyota Hiace tour van. The route runs northwest out of the city and up onto the Rift Valley escarpment, where the road turns a corner and the whole valley floor opens out below you. Your driver guide will stop at the viewpoint for as long as you want, which is usually longer than couples expect.
Afternoon: Checking in above the lake
Arrive at the park gate and drive in through acacia woodland to the lodge, roughly three hours from Nairobi including the stop. Check in, lunch on the terrace, then a couple of unhurried hours to swim, unpack properly or simply sit with the view before the afternoon starts.
Evening: First game drive and the light going gold
Out again in the late afternoon with the roof open, heading down toward the lake shore as the animals move to water. This is when the park is at its best: buffalo in the open, waterbuck in the shallows, and the first real chance at rhino. Back to the lodge after sunset for dinner and a drink somewhere quiet.
Day 2: A full day inside the park
Morning: Out before the heat
An early start with coffee before you leave, because the hour after first light is when predators are still moving and the light is worth carrying a camera for. Your guide works the rhino territory and the acacia line where Rothschild's giraffe browse. Back to the lodge for a full breakfast when you are ready.
Afternoon: Baboon Cliff and the viewpoints
After a slow midday at the pool, the afternoon drive climbs to the escarpment viewpoints. Baboon Cliff and Lion Hill look down over the entire lake and the drowned acacia woodland standing in the shallows, with fish eagles and pelicans working the branches. It is the picture most couples end up putting on the wall.
Evening: Your anniversary dinner
Dinner at the lodge, arranged in advance as your anniversary table rather than just another booking. Tell us at the time of booking and we will handle the setting with the lodge so that neither of you has to organise anything on the night.
Day 3: Last drive and the road home
Morning: One more time through
A final early game drive before breakfast, taking a different loop from the previous days. Third drives have a way of producing what the first two did not, and there is no pressure to be anywhere.
Afternoon: Back to Nairobi
Breakfast, checkout, and out through the gate for the drive south. Your van drops you back at your Nairobi address in the mid afternoon, which leaves the rest of the day yours.
