South Africa has allowed ordinary Kenyan passport holders in visa free for up to 90 days a year since January 2023, which makes Cape Town far simpler than it used to be. Most Kenyans do. The visa needs to be approved before you travel. Since June 2026 the UAE has offered a visa on arrival, but only to Kenyan passport holders who also hold a valid residence permit from the United States, the United Kingdom, an EU country, Canada, Australia, Japan, Singapore, South Korea or New Zealand. Entry rules across Asia change often. Thailand overhauled its visa exemption system in September 2026. Every visitor to Thailand must complete the Thailand Digital Arrival Card online before landing, whether or not they need a visa. For many destinations, yes. Kenya is listed as a yellow fever risk country, so places such as South Africa and Thailand ask travellers arriving from Kenya for a valid yellow fever certificate. The vaccine has to be given at an approved centre at least 10 days before you travel, so sort it out early and pack the yellow card with your passports.

Plan on at least six months of validity beyond your return date and a few blank pages. Many countries require it and airlines can refuse to board you without it. If either passport is close to expiry, renew it through eCitizen before you book, because processing times vary.
