Ramada Plaza by Wyndham Bangkok Menam Riverside and Sala Ayutthaya

Five days in Bangkok and the old royal capital of Ayutthaya on a direct Kenya Airways flight from Nairobi, with your Thai e Visa, three nights by the river in Bangkok, the Grand Palace and Wat Pho, a dinner cruise, a private guided day through Bang Pa In and the temples of Ayutthaya and a night by the river looking across at the ruins, in one price.

Affordable Bangkok and Ayutthaya Package from Nairobi: five days and four nights with direct return economy flights on Kenya Airways from JKIA, checked baggage and your Thai e Visa fee all taken care of. You spend three nights with breakfast in a river view room at Ramada Plaza by Wyndham Bangkok Menam Riverside and one night with breakfast at Sala Ayutthaya, a small riverside hotel facing the temples of the old capital. Your days take in a guided morning at the Grand Palace, Wat Phra Kaew, Wat Pho and Wat Arun, a Chao Phraya dinner cruise, a private guided day with a car and lunch through Bang Pa In Palace and the temples of Ayutthaya and the Chatuchak Weekend Market.

Most visitors see Ayutthaya on a rushed day trip and are back in Bangkok traffic by evening. You stay the night, so the old capital is yours after the tour buses leave. Kenyan passport holders need a Thai e Visa, a yellow fever certificate and the free Thailand Digital Arrival Card, and your planner walks you through all three. One price per person sharing covers the flights, hotel, transfers and every experience listed below, and one Baecation planner stays with you on WhatsApp from booking to landing home.

For more than four hundred years Ayutthaya was the capital of Siam, one of the great trading cities of Asia, until it was burnt in 1767. What remains is a UNESCO World Heritage Site of brick towers, rows of Buddha statues and the famous stone Buddha head held in the roots of a tree, about 80 kilometres north of Bangkok on an island where three rivers meet.

This trip gives Ayutthaya the time it deserves. You start with two nights in Bangkok for the Grand Palace, the temples and an evening on the river. Then a private guide and car take the two of you north through Bang Pa In, the old summer palace of the kings, to the temples of Ayutthaya, and instead of driving back you check into Sala Ayutthaya on the riverbank. Evening drinks on the rooftop look across the water to the temples, and the next morning you see the ruins early, before the day trippers arrive.

You come back to Bangkok for a last night by the river and a Saturday morning at the Chatuchak Weekend Market, then fly home on the direct night flight. Your planner prepares your e Visa documents with you and answers on WhatsApp if anything moves.

About Package

More information about this package

Your Bangkok hotel: Three nights at Ramada Plaza by Wyndham Bangkok Menam Riverside, or a comparable hotel confirmed at booking, a large riverside hotel on Charoen Krung Road with an outdoor pool and a poolside bar. You stay in a room with a river view and a buffet breakfast every morning. The hotel runs its own shuttle boat to Sathorn Pier at Saphan Taksin, and Asiatique The Riverfront is about an eight minute walk along the river.

Your night in Ayutthaya: One night at Sala Ayutthaya, or a comparable hotel confirmed at booking, a small modern hotel on the bank of the Chao Phraya, in a Deluxe River View Room with floor to ceiling windows looking across the river towards the temple of Wat Phutthaisawan. The hotel has a riverside pool, a riverside eatery and bar and a rooftop lounge. Breakfast is included.

Direct flights: Kenya Airways flies nonstop between JKIA and Bangkok Suvarnabhumi in about nine and a half hours on a Boeing 787. This trip follows the Monday night departure, which lands on Tuesday afternoon, and the flight home that leaves Bangkok at 1am on Sunday morning.

The temples of Bangkok: A guided morning takes you through the Grand Palace and Wat Phra Kaew, home of the Emerald Buddha, then Wat Pho and its reclining Buddha, about 46 metres long, before the short ferry across the river to Wat Arun. Your entrance tickets for all three are included.

Dinner on the Chao Phraya: One evening you board a dinner cruise from River City Pier for a buffet of Thai and international dishes, a welcome drink, live music and a Thai classical dance show, with a car to take you there and bring you back.

Your private day in Ayutthaya: A private car and an English speaking guide collect you from your Bangkok hotel in the morning. You stop at Bang Pa In Palace, the summer palace of the Thai kings, then explore the Ayutthaya Historical Park: Wat Phra Si Sanphet with its three great stupas, Wat Mahathat and its Buddha head in the tree roots, Wat Yai Chai Mongkhon and the reclining Buddha of Wat Lokayasutharam. A Thai lunch and every entrance fee are included, and the day ends at your hotel in Ayutthaya.

Back to Bangkok: The next day a private car brings you back from Ayutthaya to your Bangkok hotel, a little over an hour by road and longer in traffic.

Your Thai e Visa: Kenyan passport holders need a visa for Thailand. You apply online at the official Thai e Visa website, and the KES 5,000 single entry tourist visa fee is included in your price. The embassy in Nairobi asks each of you for proof of employment or business ownership, a bank statement stamped by your bank showing at least 20,000 baht each over the past three months, your return flight booking and your hotel bookings. It takes at least 15 working days, so apply at least one month before you fly but not more than three months before. Approval rests with the Thai authorities alone.

Yellow fever and arrival card: Thailand requires a yellow fever certificate from travellers arriving from Kenya, checked at the health counter before immigration. Every visitor also completes the free Thailand Digital Arrival Card online within the three days before landing. Your planner checks both with you before you fly.

Dress for the temples: Shoulders and knees must be covered at the Grand Palace and the temples, with no sleeveless tops, shorts or short skirts, and shoes come off inside the halls. At the Buddha head in the tree roots at Wat Mahathat, visitors crouch or kneel for photos so their heads stay lower than the Buddha's.

Travel cover: Bangkok and Ayutthaya are open and welcoming to visitors. Late in the rainy season low lying areas around both cities can flood after heavy rain, so we watch the official advice and tell you straight away if it changes before you fly. We strongly recommend travel insurance with medical cover, as private hospitals in Bangkok are excellent but expensive.

One planner, start to finish: Your Baecation planner prepares your e Visa documents with you, sends your e tickets and vouchers before you fly and stays reachable on WhatsApp throughout. If something shifts on the ground, you message one person instead of four companies.

Package Itinerary

The package itinerary is as follows

Affordable Bangkok and Ayutthaya Package Itinerary with Baecation Adventures from Nairobi

Kenya Airways flies direct from JKIA on Monday, Wednesday and Friday nights at 23:59 and lands in Bangkok at 13:30 the next afternoon. The flight home leaves Bangkok at 01:00 on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday mornings and lands at JKIA at 06:05. This plan follows the Monday departure. On other dates we fly you via Dubai or change the length of the stay, and the schedule can change from late March, so your planner confirms the exact flights on your written quote before you pay. The Grand Palace opens daily from 8:30am to 3:30pm but can close at short notice for royal ceremonies, Bang Pa In Palace can also close for royal events and the Chatuchak Weekend Market opens only on Saturdays and Sundays, so your planner sets the days around them.

Day 1: Nairobi to Bangkok

Afternoon: Into the City Land at Suvarnabhumi Airport in the early afternoon. Show your yellow fever cards at the health counter, clear immigration and meet your driver for the drive of about 45 minutes to the riverside. Check in and take a first swim.

Walk through the Grand Palace and Wat Phra Kaew to see the Emerald Buddha, then on to Wat Pho and its giant reclining Buddha covered in gold leaf.

Afternoon: Wat Arun Cross the river by ferry to Wat Arun, the Temple of Dawn, its spire covered in porcelain flowers. Head back to the hotel for the pool and a rest. Tonight, pack a small overnight bag for Ayutthaya and ask the hotel to hold your large cases until you return.

Evening: Dinner on the Chao Phraya Your car takes you to River City Pier for your dinner cruise. Dinner is served as the boat passes the lit temples and towers of both banks, with live music and a Thai classical dance show, and the car brings you back afterwards.

Day 3: North to Ayutthaya

Afternoon: The Old Capital Continue to Ayutthaya for a Thai lunch, then walk through Wat Phra Si Sanphet and its three great stupas, Wat Mahathat with its Buddha head held in the roots of a tree, the rows of Buddhas at Wat Yai Chai Mongkhon and the great reclining Buddha of Wat Lokayasutharam. Your guide drops you at Sala Ayutthaya in the late afternoon.

Evening: On the Rooftop Take a drink on the rooftop as evening falls over the river, then have dinner at the hotel's riverside eatery, looking across the water to Wat Phutthaisawan.

Overnight: Sala Ayutthaya or similar Meals: Breakfast and lunch

Day 4: Ayutthaya to Bangkok

Morning: The Ruins Before the Crowds Wake early and take a tuk tuk to Wat Chaiwatthanaram, the riverside temple built in the style of Angkor, while the morning is still cool and quiet. Come back for breakfast by the river and a swim.

Afternoon: Back to the City Check out at noon, and your private car takes you back to Bangkok, a little over an hour away when the roads are clear. Check back in by the river and collect your cases.
