Karunguru began life as The Ridge Estate in the early 1920s, planted by a New Zealand war veteran named George Glassford, and the coffee trees he put in are still what the farm is known for a century later. Four generations of the same family have run it since, growing single origin Arabica across roughly three hundred acres of Kiambu's red soil.
The tour follows the whole process, from the seedling nursery through the fields where the cherries are hand picked, to the processing sites where they are pulped, fermented and dried. Along the way you get to roast a small batch of your own coffee to take home, then sit down to a three course buffet lunch in the estate's 1928 house, the kind of room that makes the history feel closer than a plaque on a wall usually manages.
Afterwards there is a small shop on site selling the farm's own coffee, jam, honey and coffee soap, worth ten minutes before you head back.
A private saloon car collects you from your Nairobi home or hotel for the drive out, about forty five minutes each way, waits through the visit, and brings you back.

A Coffee Farm Since the 1920s: Planted as The Ridge Estate by George Glassford and farmed by the same family for four generations since, still producing single origin Kenyan Arabica.
Seedling to Cup: The tour walks the full process, from the nursery to hand picked cherries to the pulping, fermenting and drying that turns them into green coffee, ending with a roast you do yourself.
Lunch in the 1928 House: A three course buffet lunch served in the estate's historic house, the same building that has stood on the farm since it was built.
Take Some Home: A small on site shop sells the farm's own coffee, jam, honey and coffee soap after your tour, priced separately from your entry fee.

Pickup and the Drive Out
Your driver collects you from your Nairobi home or hotel for the roughly forty five minute drive to Kiambu, with a short welcome and an introduction to the coffee process once you arrive.
The Farm, and Your Own Roast
Walk the estate from the seedling nursery through the fields to the processing sites, then sit down for a coffee tasting and roast a small batch to take home with you.
Lunch, Then the Shop
A three course buffet lunch is served in the estate's 1928 house. Before you leave, the small farm shop sells coffee, jam, honey and coffee soap, priced separately. Your driver is waiting once you are ready to head back.
