Affordable Getaway Tsavo SGR Safari | 3 Days 2 Nights

Sentrim Tsavo or similar

No occasion, no schedule, just the two of you and a lot of red earth

Our Affordable Getaway Tsavo SGR Safari is for couples who need nothing more than a reason to leave: a train ride, two nights in Tsavo East and a day with no clock.

Some trips need an excuse. This one only needs a free weekend. Nairobi couples settle into First Class on the Madaraka Express and step off at Voi at lunchtime, where a private safari van and driver guide are waiting. Mombasa couples skip the station entirely, since the van collects you at your hotel and drives you up.

For two nights you stay at Sentrim Tsavo, a canvas camp inside Tsavo East with a waterhole in view of the dining area, a pool with its own bar and a bonfire most evenings. Game drives here bring elephants and buffalo on most days, lions fairly often and leopards now and then. Tsavo East is home to four of the Big Five, and rhinos are not one of them.

The second day is the getaway inside the getaway. You drive out to Aruba Dam, a wide sheet of water in the east of the park where animals come in to drink, and the only rule is that nobody checks the time. You stay as long as the water keeps you interested, and your guide simply turns for camp when you say so.

About Package

More information about this package

A camp inside the park: Sentrim Tsavo lies within Tsavo East, around 40 minutes by bush track from Voi Gate. You wake up already in the park, so the first drive of the day begins at the tent flap.

Room to breathe: The camp is made up of 21 canvas tents and 5 stone walled rooms, each with a king size bed under a mosquito net. A wide balcony faces the bush, and inside there is a hot shower plus tea and coffee for slow mornings.

A waterhole with dinner: The dining tables look over a waterhole that elephants visit, often after dark. Dinner can turn into an hour of watching without either of you noticing.

Pool days and fire nights: Kiu Bar is set beside the outdoor pool for the heat of the afternoon, and Chui Bar is indoors for the evening. Nights finish at the bonfire under a wide, dark sky.

Getting here is part of it: Nairobi couples take the 8:00am First Class train and reach Voi at 12:02pm. Mombasa couples are picked up at their hotel by the same private van that stays with them until the end.

Aruba Dam, with no clock: Aruba Dam is a large pool of water in Tsavo East where wildlife gathers to drink, especially in the dry months. You spend the second day out here at your own pace, and the guide heads back only when you are ready.

Package Itinerary

The package itinerary is as follows

Affordable Getaway Tsavo SGR Safari Itinerary with Baecation Adventures from Nairobi or Mombasa

Day 1

Morning, Leaving It All Behind: Nairobi couples catch the 8:00am Madaraka Express in First Class from Nairobi Terminus in Syokimau and watch the city give way to open bush and then red soil. Mombasa couples are picked up at their hotel early in the morning by the van that is theirs for the whole stay.

Afternoon, Straight Into Tsavo: The train pulls into Voi at 12:02pm and your driver guide meets you on the platform. You enter Tsavo East at Voi Gate and game drive to Sentrim Tsavo for a late lunch.

Evening, The First Evening: A short drive as the heat lifts, then back to camp before dark. You eat within view of the waterhole and finish at the bonfire.

Day 2

Morning, Out to Aruba: An early start with the plains still cool, following the tracks east towards Aruba Dam. You pull up by the water and stay while the animals come and go.

Afternoon, No Clock Today: Lunch, a rest and more time at the water, with nothing booked and nowhere to be. When you have had enough, your guide takes the long way back to camp.

Evening, A Quiet Night In: Dinner beside the waterhole, a drink at Chui Bar or an early night on your balcony listening to the bush.

Day 3

Morning, A Final Dawn: One last early drive while the park is waking up, then breakfast and check out by 10:00am.

Afternoon, Easing Back to Voi: You drive slowly out towards Voi with a packed lunch, still game viewing. Mombasa couples carry on down the highway in the van and reach the coast by evening.

Evening, The Train Home: Nairobi couples board the 4:38pm Madaraka Express at Voi in First Class and arrive at Nairobi Terminus at 8:18pm, a little dusty and fully rested.
