Day 1: Nairobi to Istanbul

Morning: Wheels Up from JKIA Your direct flight leaves JKIA before dawn, so reach the airport about three hours before departure. Carry your passports with your Turkish visas, your travel insurance certificate, e tickets and hotel voucher. About seven hours later you land on the same clock you left.

Afternoon: Into the Old City Clear immigration at Istanbul Airport, collect your bags and meet your driver in the arrivals hall for the drive of about 50 minutes to Sirkeci. Settle in, and if your room is not ready yet, leave your bags and take a first coffee nearby.

Evening: Between Two Domes Walk about ten minutes to Sultanahmet Park, where Hagia Sophia and the Blue Mosque face each other across the fountain. Step inside the Blue Mosque outside prayer time, then choose a small restaurant for your first dinner together in Istanbul.

Day 2: Mosaics, a Cistern and a Palace

Morning: Hagia Sophia and the Cistern After breakfast, walk to Hagia Sophia as the visitor route opens and climb to the upper gallery to see the Byzantine mosaics up close. Then cross the road to the Basilica Cistern, where rows of ancient columns rise out of the water in the half light.

Afternoon: Topkapı Palace Spend the afternoon at Topkapı Palace, home of the Ottoman sultans for four centuries. Your ticket covers the courtyards, the Harem and Hagia Irene, and the palace terraces look out over the Bosphorus.

Evening: Pool Hours Back at the hotel, warm up in the indoor pool or the hammam, then find dinner a short walk away.

Day 3: A Day on the Islands

Morning: The Ferry to Büyükada After breakfast, board the public ferry for Büyükada with your Istanbulkart. The crossing takes about 60 to 90 minutes, with the old city skyline falling away behind you and the gulls following the boat.

Afternoon: Lanes Without Cars Walk the quiet lanes of old timber summer mansions, hire bikes or ride the electric shuttle, and if you have the legs for it, climb the steep cobbled path to the Monastery of St George on the hilltop. Choose a fish restaurant on the harbour for a late lunch.

Evening: Galata and Karaköy Take the ferry back to the European side, then walk across the Galata Bridge and up to Galata Tower and the lanes of Karaköy for dinner. The tram takes you back to Sirkeci.

Morning: Nowhere to Be Sleep in, take a late breakfast and spend the morning however you like. This is the slowest morning of the trip, on purpose.

Afternoon: The Hammam Walk to Ayasofya Hürrem Sultan Hamamı in Sultanahmet for a traditional hammam ritual each: warm marble, a scrub and a foam wash under the old domes. Head back to the hotel to rest and dress for the evening.

Evening: Dinner on the Bosphorus You are collected from the hotel for your Bosphorus dinner cruise. Dinner is served as the boat sails past the lit palaces and mosques of both shores, with live music and a Turkish night show. If you added an occasion upgrade, this is usually the evening we build it around.

Day 5: Istanbul to Nairobi

Morning: The Grand Bazaar After breakfast, lose yourselves in the covered lanes of the Grand Bazaar, then walk down to the Spice Bazaar for Turkish delight, coffee and saffron to take home. If it is a Sunday, the Spice Bazaar is open and the Grand Bazaar is not.

Afternoon: A Last Look Around Check out, leave your bags with the hotel and spend the afternoon in Gülhane Park or over a last Turkish coffee.

Evening: Flying Home Your driver collects you from the hotel for the evening flight home. You touch down at JKIA in the early hours, with five days of stories to tell.
