This Affordable Getaway Amboseli Safari is for couples who simply need to get away together, with no reason required beyond wanting the time.
Not every trip needs a reason. Sometimes the calendar is full, the phone never stops and the two of you just need a few days somewhere wide and quiet. Amboseli is close enough to Nairobi for a short break and different enough to feel like a real escape: open plains, big elephant herds and, on clear mornings and evenings, Kilimanjaro rising from across the border in Tanzania. Cloud often hides the mountain, so we plan the drives for the early and late light, when it has its best chance.
You stay two nights at Sentrim Amboseli, a tented camp on the border of the national park, a few minutes from Kimana Gate. A private safari van with a pop up roof and your own driver guide take care of every kilometre, so the only thing you have to decide is when to stop.
The heart of the trip is the engine off hour. On the second afternoon, your guide parks at the edge of the swamps, turns the engine off and simply waits. Elephants wade through the green water, egrets pick around their feet and hippos surface in the channels. No radio, no rushing to the next sighting, just an hour of watching Amboseli go about its day beside you.

The Setting: Sentrim Amboseli sits on land that borders the national park, about 3 km from Kimana Gate, with 60 tents spread across its grounds. It puts you minutes from the park without paying inside the park prices.
The Tent: Canvas walls, an en suite bathroom with hot showers, a private veranda and a tea and coffee tray. Simple comfort, with the sounds of the bush outside.
Three Meals a Day: Full board means breakfast, lunch and dinner at the camp restaurant, and nothing to organise.
The Pool Break: The outdoor pool is the answer to Amboseli's hot middle hours, and the easiest way to do nothing at all.
Maasai Touches: Maasai craft and design shape the camp's common spaces, a nod to the community land that surrounds the park.
The Van Is Yours: A private Toyota Hiace with a pop up roof and your own driver guide for all three days. No schedule except yours.
The Engine Off Hour: An hour parked at the edge of the swamps on the second afternoon, engine off, with nowhere else to be.
Park Fees Sorted: Three daily park tickets for both of you are included in the price.

Day 1: Leaving It All Behind
Morning: Out of the City We collect you at 6:30am from your home or hotel in Nairobi. The drive follows Mombasa Road to Emali, then turns south through Kimana into wide, dry country. Phones down, windows open.
Afternoon: First Drive Check in and lunch at Sentrim Amboseli, then out through Kimana Gate for your first afternoon among the herds as the heat begins to ease.
Evening: A Quiet Night Dinner at camp and an early night, with the bush sounds just outside the canvas.
Day 2: Slow Safari
Morning: First Light Through the gate as it opens, when the air is cool, the animals are active and Kilimanjaro has its best chance of appearing. Back to camp for a late breakfast.
Afternoon: The Engine Off Hour After lunch and a swim, you head back into the park. Your guide parks at the edge of the swamps and switches off the engine. For an hour you just watch: elephants wading, birds working the shallows, hippos rising and sinking in the channels.
Evening: Dinner at Camp An unhurried dinner, with nothing planned for the rest of the night.
Day 3: Easy Return
Morning: Last Look A final early drive through the park, then breakfast back at camp before checkout.
Afternoon: The Road Home North again through Kimana and Emali, with a lunch stop along the way at your own cost.
Evening: Back to Nairobi We drop you at your home or hotel in the late afternoon or early evening, depending on traffic.
