The Affordable Honeymoon Malindi Package begins the way a honeymoon should, with a short flight rather than a long drive.
A wedding asks a great deal of two people, and by the time it is over the last thing either of you wants is another full day on the road. You are wheels up from JKIA in the morning and on a veranda in Malindi by lunchtime, with nothing left to organise and nobody left to thank.
You stay at African House Resort, a small colonial villa set back from Casuarina Road in a tropical garden, with seven rooms, a pool and a kitchen that cooks to order rather than to a buffet clock. The rooms have four poster beds, private verandas and enough space to spread out in. Malindi Beach is 300 metres away, the marine park is a ten minute walk, and the town and its restaurants are five minutes by tuk tuk when you feel like company.
On your second evening we set a table for the two of you away from the restaurant, which is the one piece of the trip we plan for you. The rest of the days are deliberately empty. Swim, sleep, eat late, walk out onto the sandbanks when the tide pulls back, and go inland to Gede Ruins only if you feel like it.

Return flights from Nairobi: JKIA to Malindi Airport, nonstop and a little over an hour, with the airport only ten minutes from the hotel gate at the Malindi end.
A seven room villa rather than a resort: African House Resort holds fewer than twenty guests when full, so the pool is usually quiet and the staff know your names by the second morning. Guests consistently rate it among the strongest stays in Malindi.
Rooms built for two: Each room is individually decorated and air conditioned, with a four poster bed, a large bathroom and a private veranda looking over the garden. Afternoon tea, coffee and pastries are laid out daily.
A kitchen that cooks to order: Breakfast and dinner are a la carte, with Italian and Swahili dishes, and much of the produce comes from the resort farm. Dinner can be served on your own veranda if you would rather not sit in the restaurant.
A private beach dinner on night two: A table set for the two of you, away from the other guests, arranged by us rather than by you.
Malindi on your doorstep: The beach is a short walk, Malindi Marine National Park is ten minutes on foot, and Gede Ruins, Arabuko Sokoke Forest and the Kipepeo Butterfly Project are all short drives inland when you want a change from the sand.
Package Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival, and the First Quiet Hour.
Morning: Your pickup is arranged for JKIA, and the flight lifts off for the coast. A little over an hour later you land at Malindi Airport, where a driver is waiting. The drive to Casuarina Road takes about ten minutes.
Afternoon: Check in, put the phones down and take the first swim. The pool sits in the middle of the garden with loungers under the palms. If you are hungry, lunch can be ordered at the bar rather than sat down for properly.
Evening: Dinner at the resort, cooked to order and served whenever you are ready for it. If the walk appeals, the beach is 300 metres away and worth seeing once before the light goes.
Day 2: The Day You Do Not Plan.
Morning: Breakfast is a la carte and unhurried. Ask at reception for the week's tide table, because these bays change completely between high and low water. A low tide falling mid morning gives you sandbanks you can walk out to and the best light of the day.
Afternoon: Take it as it comes. Stay by the pool, snorkel inside the marine park, or go twenty minutes inland to Gede Ruins, a Swahili town abandoned centuries ago and now standing in forest. The Kipepeo Butterfly Project sits beside it and takes an easy hour.
Evening: Your table is set away from the restaurant, just the two of you, for the dinner we arranged before you arrived. Nothing to choose, nothing to pay at the end of it.
Day 3: A Day Made for Two.
Morning: Start slow with breakfast in bed, arranged quietly the night before. When you are ready, a dhow is waiting at the jetty for a sail along the reef, with nothing to do but watch the coastline change colour.
Afternoon: Back at the resort, a couple's massage is booked in the garden, the kind that ends with fresh coconut water and no reason to check the time.
Evening: As the sun drops, you are driven to a quiet stretch of beach north of town, where a table has been set in the sand and a lantern lit for the two of you, the tide close enough to hear but far enough not to reach the plates.
Day 4: One Last Morning.
Morning: Sleep in properly. Breakfast runs late, the pool is at its best before the heat arrives, and checkout is not something to rush toward.
Afternoon: Your transfer collects you for the short run to Malindi Airport and the flight back to Nairobi, landing you home the same day with the holiday still on your skin.
