Affordable Honeymoon Mombasa SGR | 4 Days 3 Nights

Couple Packages
Honeymoons

Mombasa Beach Hotel or similar

Four days on the North Coast, a sea facing balcony, and a train that does the driving for you.

An Affordable Honeymoon Mombasa SGR package built around three unhurried nights on the North Coast.

You leave Nairobi Terminus at eight in the morning and reach the coast in the early afternoon. No airport queues, no eleven hour drive, no arriving worn out. The train crosses Tsavo in daylight, which is a quiet pleasure most Kenyans never make time for, and by mid afternoon you are checking into a room with a balcony that faces the Indian Ocean.

What follows is deliberately unstructured. Two full days with nothing scheduled, because a honeymoon is not a sightseeing itinerary and the point of Nyali is that you do not have to go anywhere. Breakfast and dinner are taken care of. Lunch is left open so a long morning on the beach never has to end because a buffet is closing.

On your last day the room goes back at ten but the day does not end there. A car and driver are yours from checkout until the train, luggage in the boot, so you can wander Old Town, walk through Haller Park or simply take a slow lunch somewhere before rolling into the terminus. You reach Nairobi that evening.

About Package

More information about this package

Every room faces the sea: Mombasa Beach Hotel has 152 rooms and every one of them has its own balcony looking out over the Indian Ocean. There is no garden view consolation room to be allocated, which on a honeymoon matters more than it sounds.

A working beach, not a strip of sand: The hotel sits directly on white sand on the Nyali shoreline with the Cavern Beach Bistro built into the rock at the water's edge. Mombasa Marine National Park lies just offshore, so the snorkelling boats leave from in front of you.

Shade when the coast gets heavy: The grounds are mature tropical gardens rather than newly landscaped lawn, which is the difference between a pool deck you can sit at in the afternoon and one you have to abandon until five.

20 minutes from everything, and nothing: The hotel is roughly 7 km from the Mombasa CBD and 1.6 km from City Mall and Nyali Centre, so Old Town, Fort Jesus and Haller Park are all short runs. It is also the closest of the North Coast properties to Miritini, which shortens both transfer days.

Part of Kenya Safari Lodges and Hotels: The same group runs Voi and Ngulia Safari Lodges in Tsavo, so if you want to add a couple of bush nights on the way back the connection already exists.

Rooms built for the heat: Air conditioning throughout, polished floors, mini bar, WiFi and a beauty salon and spa on site for the afternoon nobody wants to spend in the sun.

Package Itinerary

The package itinerary is as follows

Affordable Honeymoon Mombasa SGR Itinerary with Baecation Adventures from Nairobi

Day One: The train takes the strain

Morning. Boarding at Nairobi Terminus in Syokimau for the eight o'clock departure. If you are coming from town, the link train leaves Nairobi Central at 6:40am. Settle in, watch Athi River give way to open country, and by mid morning you are running through Tsavo with elephant and giraffe close enough to the line to count.

Afternoon. Miritini in the early afternoon. Your driver is waiting on the platform, not in the car park, because the arrivals area is a scrum and nobody should start a honeymoon negotiating with touts. Through Changamwe, over the causeway and across Nyali Bridge to the hotel. Check in, open the balcony door and let the sea air do what it does.

Evening. Dinner at the hotel, then the short walk down to the water. The sand at Nyali holds the day's warmth well after dark.

Day Two: Nothing scheduled, on purpose

Morning. Breakfast late if you want it late. The beach in front of the hotel is at its best before the sun climbs, and the tide pulls a long way out, which makes for a proper barefoot walk.

Afternoon. The pool, the gardens or the spa. If either of you wants the water, the Marine Park reef is a short boat ride off the beach and can be arranged on the morning.

Evening. Dinner, and the terrace afterwards.

Day Three: The day you will talk about

Morning. A second slow start, or an early boat out to the reef while the water is still clear.

Afternoon. Nyali Centre and City Mall are fifteen minutes away if you want an hour of browsing, or stay put. This is the day the hotel earns its keep.

Evening. The natural slot for the Tamarind dhow if you have added it. Pickup is from the hotel, the boat sails past Fort Jesus lit up against the water, and dinner is cooked on the deck in front of you.

Day Four: Checkout is not the end

Morning. Breakfast, then the room goes back at ten. Your bags go into the car, not into a luggage store, and the driver stays with you.

Afternoon. The car is yours until the train. Fort Jesus and the carved doors of Old Town, or Haller Park and the giraffe feeding platform, or a long lunch somewhere on the creek. You decide on the morning. The driver has you at Miritini in good time for the three o'clock departure.

Evening. The coast slides away behind you. Nairobi Terminus at around twenty past 8.
