Affordable Honeymoon Nakuru Safari | 4 Days 3 Nights

Couple Packages
Honeymoons

Lake Nakuru Lodge or similar

An Affordable Honeymoon Nakuru Safari, starting the morning after the last guest leaves.

The days after a Kenyan wedding are strange. You have spent months organising something for two hundred people, you have not had a full conversation with each other since the dowry talks, and now the tents are coming down and everyone is asking what your plans are.

Most couples answer that question with a flight they cannot really afford, or with nothing at all.

This is the third option. Four days, three nights, about three hours up the road, starting whenever you are ready to move rather than whenever a departure gate says so.

You leave Nairobi in your own Toyota Hiace tour van with your own driver guide, and it stays with you for all four days. Up the Rift Valley escarpment, through the gate of Lake Nakuru National Park, and in to Lake Nakuru Lodge in time for lunch. From that point the only thing either of you has to decide is what time to get up.

Three nights is what makes this a honeymoon rather than a weekend. The first day you arrive and sleep. The second and third you have entirely, which is enough to be out at first light one morning and to ignore the alarm completely the next. Kenya's first rhino sanctuary sits outside your door, fenced and compact, with both black and white rhino seen here more reliably than almost anywhere in the country, Rothschild's giraffe along the acacia line, and an escarpment that looks down across the whole lake at golden hour.

Full board throughout, so nothing is counted. A balcony that faces the water. A pool for the middle of the day.

And if you want the version with the infinity pool on the cliff edge, The Cliff sits inside the same park and you can move there for a night or for the whole stay.

Four days. Three nights. The first quiet week of your marriage.

About Package

More information about this package

Three nights, which is the difference: Two nights is a weekend. Three nights gives you a full day where nothing is planned at either end of it, and that is usually the day couples remember. It is also the day you finally sleep properly after the wedding.

No flight, no departure time: Lake Nakuru is about 160 kilometres from Nairobi, roughly three hours by road. You leave when you are ready rather than when a ticket says, which matters more than it sounds in the week after a Kenyan wedding when nothing runs to schedule.

Your vehicle for all four days: The Toyota Hiace tour van with its opening viewing roof and driver guide stays with you from the Nairobi pickup to the Nairobi drop off. Four days rather than three, so the vehicle is there on your extra day too, which means that day can be a full game drive or a drive into Nakuru town or nothing at all.

Inside the gate: Lake Nakuru Lodge sits within the national park itself, so game drives start from the car park. No queue at the gate in the morning and no six o'clock deadline, which gives you first and last light on every one of your three days.

Kenya's first rhino sanctuary: Fenced and compact, this is one of the most reliable places in the country to see both black and white rhino. Rothschild's giraffe, one of the rarest giraffe subspecies left in the wild, browse the acacia woodland here alongside lion, leopard and buffalo.

Rooms that face the lake: All rooms open onto a private balcony or patio with lake or escarpment views, with a separate sitting area and a deep soaking bath. There is a pool, a poolside bar, a terrace restaurant and a treatment room on site.

Full board, so nothing is transactional: Breakfast, lunch and dinner are included for both of you across the whole stay, from arrival lunch to departure breakfast. Nobody signs for anything on their honeymoon.

The Cliff, if you want it: The Cliff is a ten suite tented camp built along a hundred metre cliff face inside the same national park, with an infinity pool at the edge, an Africology spa, freestanding baths facing the lake and a farm to fork kitchen. You can move there for your last night or take the whole stay there. Both options are priced below.

Package Itinerary

The package itinerary is as follows

Affordable Honeymoon Nakuru Safari Itinerary with Baecation Adventures from Nairobi
Day 1: Nairobi to Lake Nakuru National Park

Morning: Leaving on your own time
Pickup from your Nairobi home or hotel at 7:00 am, or later if you would rather sleep. The road runs northwest and climbs onto the Rift Valley escarpment, where the viewpoint opens onto the whole valley floor with Longonot and Suswa out on the plain. Your driver guide will stop for as long as you want.

Afternoon: Checking in
Through the park gate and in to the lodge, roughly three hours from Nairobi with the stop. Check in, lunch on the terrace, then the afternoon is yours. Most couples spend this one asleep, and there is no reason not to.

Evening: First game drive
Out with the roof open as the heat drops, down toward the lake shore where the animals come to water. Buffalo in the open, waterbuck in the shallows and a real chance at white rhino on the first drive. Dinner back at the lodge.

Day 2: The early day

Morning: First light
An early start with coffee before you leave. The hour after sunrise is when predators are still moving and when the park belongs entirely to the people staying inside it. Your driver guide works the rhino territory and the acacia line where Rothschild's giraffe browse. Back for a long breakfast whenever you want it.

Afternoon: Baboon Cliff and the drowned forest
A slow midday at the pool, then out again as the light turns. The road climbs to Baboon Cliff and Lion Hill, looking down across the whole lake and the bare acacia trunks standing in the shallow water, with fish eagles and great white pelicans working the branches.

Evening: Your dinner
A private table arranged in advance, away from the main restaurant, with whatever you have added waiting when you sit down.

Day 3: The day with nothing in it

Morning: The alarm stays off
This is the day that separates a honeymoon from a long weekend. Breakfast at nine, the pool, the balcony, a book. Nobody is coming to get you.

Afternoon: Whatever you feel like
The vehicle is here on this day too, so you can go out for a full afternoon drive on a route you have not used, take the road down to Makalia Falls at the southern end of the park if the water is running, or drive into Nakuru town and back. Or ignore all of it and stay where you are.

Evening: Sundowner
The escarpment at the end of the day, with a sundowner set up at a viewpoint if you have added one, and dinner on the terrace afterwards with the lake dark below.

Day 4: Last drive and the road home

Morning: One more loop
A final early game drive before breakfast, on a route you have not taken yet. By the fourth day you both know where things usually are, which changes how the drive feels.

Afternoon: Back to Nairobi
Breakfast, checkout, and out through the gate for the drive south, with your van dropping you at your Nairobi address in the mid afternoon.
