Rapids Camp Sagana, room on full board, or similar

Romantic Getaways in Sagana

3 days on the river, 2 nights of full board, affordable honeymoon that leaves Nairobi behind by lunchtime.

Most honeymoons ask you to spend a day getting there. This one asks for just 2 hours.

Sagana sits about 100 km north of Nairobi, where the river drops through a run of rapids that made this small town the home of white water rafting in Kenya. You can leave the city on a Friday and be sitting by the water before the light goes. There is no flight to book, no airport to sit in and no long transfer at the far end.

What you get instead is 3 days that belong entirely to the two of you. A private room a short walk from the water. Every meal handled, from the first breakfast to the last. 6 activities already inside the price, none of them the kind that require nerve, all of them the kind you will talk about later. A walk along the river under moonlight. A quiet hour in a kayak. The waterfall, the geckos, the plunge, the zip line.

If one of you wants the full rapids and the other does not, that works here too. The bigger runs and the bungee sit alongside the package rather than inside it, so you take them if you want them and skip them without paying for them.

This is a honeymoon built for couples who would rather spend well on two good nights than thinly on a week. It costs a fraction of the coast and asks almost nothing of your calendar.

About Package

More information about this package

A private room, not a tent line:
Rapids Camp keeps its rooms separate from the camping ground, with electricity and a private bathroom. You are on the same site as the river and the activities without sleeping in canvas or sharing a washblock.

Full board from the moment you arrive:
Breakfast, lunch and dinner are covered across all three days, served buffet style from the camp kitchen with Kenyan and Indian dishes and vegetarian options on request. Complimentary coffee runs throughout the stay. You will not open a wallet at mealtimes.

Six activities already inside the price:
The waterfall challenge, a moonlight river walk, kayaking, the geckos, the plunge and zip lining are all included rather than sold to you on arrival. These are the gentler end of the Sagana menu, which is deliberate for a honeymoon.

The river is the reason to come:
The stretch running past the camp carries Class 3 and 4 water and has been run commercially for over thirty years, with graded sections so beginners and experienced rafters are not put in the same boat. The full rafting run is available as an add on when you want it.

Two hours from Nairobi on tarmac:
The Nairobi Nyeri road gets you there in roughly two hours in normal traffic. That is the entire reason a two night honeymoon works here and does not work in most of Kenya.

Package Itinerary

The package itinerary is as follows

3 Days Affordable Honeymoon Sagana Itinerary with Baecation Adventures from Nairobi.

Day 1
Morning: The road north

Leave Nairobi whenever suits you. Check in at camp is open from midday, so a mid morning departure gives you a relaxed drive with time to stop along the way. The pineapple fields outside Thika are worth slowing down for.

Afternoon: First sight of the water

Arrive, settle into your room and eat lunch overlooking the river. When you are ready, the waterfall challenge takes you upstream on foot to where the water comes down hard and loud. It is a walk rather than a climb, and it is the fastest way to understand why people come here.

Evening: A walk under the moon

Dinner is served at camp as the light drops. Afterwards, the moonlight walk follows the riverbank in the dark, with the water audible beside you the whole way. Most couples find this the quietest and best hour of the first day.

Day 2

Morning: On the water together

After breakfast, the kayaks go out on the calmer stretch. This is flat water rather than rapids, so neither of you needs experience, and you can drift as much as you paddle. The geckos follow, small inflatables on the gentle sections, which is where most of the laughing happens.

Afternoon: The plunge and the line

The plunge is a jump from the rocks into a deep pool of the river, twice if you want it. Then the zip line runs out across the water and back. Neither is dangerous and both are a fair bit of adrenaline, which is the right amount for an afternoon that ends with a long shower.

Evening: The long dinner

Nothing is scheduled. Dinner runs late, the fire is lit and the sky over Sagana is clear on most dry season nights. This is the evening to add a candlelit table by the water if you want one.

Day 3

Morning: A slow one

Breakfast without a start time. The river is at its best early, with birds working the far bank, and the deck is the correct place to be for the first hour of the day.

Afternoon: Home the easy way

Check out after a final lunch. The drive back puts you in Nairobi in the late afternoon, which leaves a whole evening at home before the week starts again. That is the quiet argument for Sagana over the coast.
Evening: Back in Nairobi
You are home with time to unpack.
