Our Affordable Honeymoon Samburu Safari takes you north to the Ewaso Nyiro River for four days and three nights of private game drives, riverside evenings and one full day with no alarm clock at all.
After months of planning a wedding, the last thing you need is another schedule. Samburu gives you the opposite. It sits far to the north of Mount Kenya, a dry, open country of red earth and doum palms where the Ewaso Nyiro River draws elephants down to drink every afternoon, and where the phone signal is weak enough that nobody expects a reply.
Your honeymoon runs four days rather than three, and that extra day is the point. The first full day is for the reserve: private game drives in search of the Samburu Special Five, Grevy's zebra, reticulated giraffe, gerenuk, beisa oryx and Somali ostrich, along with the lions, leopards and elephants that share the river. The second is yours. Sleep in, eat a late breakfast, spend the heat of the day by the pool and head out only when the light turns gold.
The road north takes five to six hours, past the Equator at Nanyuki, and ends at a small, community run lodge where your room is dressed for newlyweds on the first night. Your van and driver guide stay with you throughout, so every drive runs on your time, not a group's.

Your Lodge: Samburu Elephant Lodge is a small, privately owned lodge on the banks of the Ewaso Nyiro, with only a handful of villas and cottages, so it feels like a retreat rather than a hotel. It is run by members of the local community, and the care shows.
Newlywed Welcome: Your room is dressed for your arrival with petals, candles, a small cake and a card, the first celebration of your married life on the road.
The Day With No Alarm: The extra night buys a day with nothing scheduled until late afternoon, for sleeping in, reading, swimming and simply being married.
Pool Above the River: The pool looks out over the river country, a quiet place to spend the hot middle hours while the animals rest too.
Elephants on the Doorstep: Herds come down to drink near the lodge and are regularly seen from the grounds, especially in the dry months.
Full Board: Breakfast, lunch and dinner are included for all three nights, so the only decision left is where to sit.
Private Van for Two: Your own tour van with a pop up roof and a driver guide for all four days, never shared with other guests.

Day 1: North as Newlyweds
Morning: The Road Out
We collect you from your home or hotel in Nairobi at 6am. The drive runs north past Mount Kenya, with a stop at the Equator in Nanyuki for your first photo straddling two hemispheres as a married couple.
Afternoon: Arrival by the River
Beyond Isiolo the country turns dry and red. Lunch is at the lodge, then a first gentle game drive as the day cools.
Evening: Your Newlywed Welcome
Your room is dressed with petals, candles, a small cake and a card. Dinner at the lodge, and a first night to the sound of the river.
Day 2: The Reserve
Morning: Out at First Light
The best drive of the day, when lions and leopards are still on the move and the Special Five are out feeding in the cool.
Afternoon: Rest and the River
Back for lunch and the pool. Late in the afternoon your guide takes you along the Ewaso Nyiro, where elephants come to drink and crocodiles lie on the sandbanks.
Evening: Stars Over the North
Dinner at the lodge, then step out onto the grounds and look up at a sky with very little light to spoil it.
Day 3: The Day With No Alarm
Morning: Sleep In
No early drive today. Wake when you wake, take a long breakfast and let the morning go.
Afternoon: Pool and Shade
The heat of the day belongs to the pool, a book and each other.
Evening: Golden Hour Drive
As the light turns gold, your guide takes you out for a relaxed evening drive to see the reserve at its most beautiful, back in time for dinner.
Day 4: Heading Home Married
Morning: One Last Look
A short early drive, then breakfast and checkout.
Afternoon: The Road South
The drive back passes Isiolo, Nanyuki and Mount Kenya, with a lunch stop along the way at your own cost.
Evening: Home
We drop you at your home or hotel in Nairobi in the early evening, the first chapter of married life well and truly started.
