The Affordable Proposal Malindi Package is arranged entirely through one person, so that only one of you knows what the trip is actually for.
A proposal has one hard requirement, which is that it stays a surprise until the moment you choose. Everything else is decoration. So this trip is built backwards from that: you deal with one consultant, nothing goes out to a shared email, and the property is briefed before you land rather than on the day.
You fly from JKIA to Malindi in a little over an hour and stay at African House Resort, a small colonial villa off Casuarina Road with seven rooms, a pool in a tropical garden and a kitchen that cooks to order. Its size is the reason we use it for this. In a place that holds fewer than twenty guests, the staff know what is being planned and why, and a table set apart on the second evening reads as a nice touch rather than a signal.
That table is where the question gets asked, unless you decide otherwise. The rest of the trip is deliberately loose. Swim, sleep, eat late, walk out onto the sandbanks when the tide pulls back, and go inland to Gede Ruins only if the waiting gets too much.

Return flights from Nairobi: JKIA to Malindi Airport, nonstop and a little over an hour, with the airport only ten minutes from the hotel gate at the Malindi end.
One point of contact throughout: Bookings, confirmations and payment run through a single consultant on a number you choose, so nothing lands in a shared inbox or a shared calendar before you are ready.
A seven room villa rather than a resort: African House Resort holds fewer than twenty guests when full, so the pool is usually quiet and there is no crowd to work around. Guests consistently rate it among the strongest stays in Malindi.
Rooms built for two: Each room is individually decorated and air conditioned, with a four poster bed, a large bathroom and a private veranda looking over the garden. Afternoon tea, coffee and pastries are laid out daily.
A private dinner briefed in advance: A table set for the two of you away from the other guests, with timing agreed with the property before you arrive. If you want a photographer positioned nearby, we place them where they will not be noticed until it is over.
A kitchen that cooks to order: Breakfast and dinner are a la carte, with Italian and Swahili dishes, and much of the produce comes from the resort farm. Dinner can be served on your own veranda instead if you would rather be further from everyone.

Day 1: Arrival, and Nobody Asking Questions.
Morning: Your pickup is arranged for JKIA and the flight lifts off for the coast. A little over an hour later you land at Malindi Airport, where a driver is waiting. The drive to Casuarina Road takes about ten minutes.
Afternoon: Check in and take the first swim. The pool sits in the middle of the garden with loungers under the palms, and lunch can be ordered at the bar rather than sat down for properly. If you want to confirm anything with us, this is the window to do it while your partner is in the water.
Evening: Dinner at the resort, cooked to order and served whenever you are ready. Keep it ordinary. The beach is 300 metres away if you feel like walking before the light goes.
Day 2: A Day That Gives Nothing Away.
Morning: Breakfast is a la carte and unhurried. Ask at reception for the week's tide table, which is a reasonable thing to ask and also tells you when the sandbanks will be walkable. A low tide falling mid morning gives you the best of them.
Afternoon: Take it as it comes. Stay by the pool, snorkel inside the marine park, or go twenty minutes inland to Gede Ruins, a Swahili town abandoned centuries ago and now standing in forest. The Kipepeo Butterfly Project sits beside it and takes an easy hour. A day with something in it is easier than a day spent waiting.
Evening: Your table is set away from the restaurant, just the two of you, arranged before you arrived. What happens there is yours. Afterwards there is still a full night and most of another day, which is the part people forget to plan for and the part you will actually remember.
Day 3: The Morning After.
Morning: Sleep in properly. Breakfast runs late, the pool is at its best before the heat arrives, and this is when the phone calls home get made.
Afternoon: Your transfer collects you for the short run to Malindi Airport and the flight back to Nairobi. You land the same day, engaged, with the whole thing still only a few hours old.
