Our Affordable Proposal Samburu Safari gives you three days in Kenya's wild north and one perfect sunrise to ask the question, with a private van, a guide who is in on the plan and an engagement dinner waiting that evening.
As far as your partner knows, this is a safari. Three days in Samburu, a private van, a small lodge on the Ewaso Nyiro and the chance to see animals neither of you has seen before: Grevy's zebra, reticulated giraffe, gerenuk, beisa oryx and Somali ostrich, the Samburu Special Five. That is reason enough to go, and it makes the perfect cover.
What only you know is what happens on the second morning. Your driver guide is briefed before you leave Nairobi. At first light, your guide takes the van to a quiet stretch of the river where elephants come down to drink, raises the roof and finds a reason to be busy with the engine. You stand up through the roof hatch together, the sun comes up over the doum palms, and you ask.
After that, the trip belongs to both of you. The rest of the day is a celebration in slow motion: game drives, the pool, the news sinking in. That evening your table at the lodge is set with candles, flowers and a small cake for your first dinner as an engaged couple.

Your Lodge: Samburu Elephant Lodge is a small, privately owned lodge on the banks of the Ewaso Nyiro, with only a few villas and cottages, which makes it a far more private setting for a proposal than a big lodge full of other guests.
A Guide Who Keeps Secrets: We brief your driver guide before the trip, so they know the plan, pick the spot and keep a straight face until the moment arrives.
The Sunrise Moment: The proposal happens standing in the van's open roof at first light, with the river below and elephants often at the water. There is no need to leave the vehicle inside the reserve.
A Backup Plan: Wildlife does not take instructions. If the morning does not cooperate, your guide switches to the lodge's riverside view at sunset that same day, so the moment still happens.
Engagement Dinner: That evening your table is set with candles, flowers and a small cake, marking your first dinner as an engaged couple.
Pool and River Views: The lodge pool looks out over the river country, the right place to spend the afternoon letting the news settle in.
Full Board: Breakfast, lunch and dinner are included, so after the proposal there is nothing left to organise except the phone calls home.

Day 1: The Cover Story
Morning: Heading North
We pick you both up at your home or hotel in Nairobi at 6am. As far as your partner knows, this is a safari, and the drive past Mount Kenya and the Equator stop at Nanyuki keep it looking exactly like one.
Afternoon: Arriving in Samburu
North of Isiolo the land turns red and wide open. Lunch is at the lodge, then your first game drive, while your guide quietly scouts the stretch of river for tomorrow morning.
Evening: Keeping It Together
Dinner at the lodge. Try to act normal. Keep the ring somewhere only you will look.
Day 2: The Morning You Ask
Morning: Sunrise at the River
Out at first light. Your guide stops the van where the Ewaso Nyiro catches the sunrise and elephants come to drink, and raises the roof. You stand up together, and you ask.
Afternoon: Celebrating Slowly
The rest of the day is yours together. A long breakfast, messages home, the pool through the heat of the day, then an afternoon drive along the river to find the rest of the Special Five as a newly engaged couple.
Evening: Your Engagement Dinner
Your table at the lodge is set with candles, flowers and a small cake for your first dinner engaged.
Day 3: Heading Home Engaged
Morning: One Last Drive
A short final game drive together, then breakfast and checkout.
Afternoon: The Road South
The drive back passes Isiolo, Nanyuki and Mount Kenya, with a lunch stop along the way at your own cost.
Evening: Home With News
We drop you both at your home or hotel in Nairobi in the early evening, with a ring, a story and the photos to prove it.
