Maasai Mara Hot Air Balloon Safari – Sunrise Flight, Champagne Bush Breakfast & Wildlife Views | Day Experience
Balloon Safaris
Kenya Balloon Safaris
There is a moment, about ten minutes into a hot air balloon flight over the Maasai Mara, when the engine cuts and the basket goes completely silent. No road noise. No engine hum. Just the wind moving you slowly across the sky, the golden plains stretching in every direction as far as you can see, and the person next to you, and the understanding that you are experiencing something that very few people on Earth will ever witness.
That is the balloon safari. And it is worth every shilling.
Your morning begins at 4:30am — a gentle wake-up call, hot coffee in the dark, and a transfer through the sleeping reserve to the launch site where your pilot and crew are already working. By 5:15am the envelope is inflating, glowing against the pre-dawn sky. By 6:00am you are airborne — lifted gently above the acacia trees and out over the open Mara plains as the sun breaks the horizon and turns everything gold.
For the next hour, you float above one of Earth's most extraordinary landscapes. Elephant herds moving in the early light. Lion prides settling after a night hunt. Giraffe browsing the treetops at eye level. The Mara River threading through the grassland below. And during July to October, the Great Migration — tens of thousands of wildebeest moving across the plains in one of nature's most extraordinary performances, visible from above in a way that ground-level game drives simply cannot match.
When you land — safely, gently, wherever the wind has taken you across the Mara — a table is already set in the bush. White linen, champagne, a gourmet breakfast, the African morning around you. Your pilot presents your flight certificate. And you sit there, in the middle of the Mara, understanding why people who do this once spend the rest of their lives trying to describe it to people who haven't.
Book the balloon safari as a standalone experience, or ask Baecation Adventures to bundle it with your Mara lodge stay for a seamless all-inclusive balloon safari package.

About Package
More information about this package
One hour of complete silence above Africa's greatest wildlife spectacle: The basket goes quiet after launch and stays that way — no engine, no crowds, just the wind moving you slowly above the Mara plains as the wildlife moves below. The balloon typically reaches 300–500 metres above ground, offering panoramic views across the entire reserve and into Tanzania's Serengeti beyond.
The Great Migration from above — Jul–Oct only: During migration season, tens of thousands of wildebeest are visible from the air as continuous dark rivers moving across the plains. The famous Mara River crossing — where crocodiles wait for the herds — can sometimes be witnessed from the balloon, offering a perspective completely unavailable from a game drive vehicle.
Champagne bush breakfast in the Mara after landing: Every balloon safari ends with a gourmet breakfast served in the field wherever the wind delivers you — white linen, champagne, fresh hot food prepared by the crew, with the Mara around you and no other tourists in sight. A flight certificate is presented to every guest.
Pre-dawn pickup and expert certified pilot throughout: Your lodge pickup is at 4:30am — hot drinks provided in the vehicle. Your pilot is licensed by the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority and operates with decades of Mara flying experience. Safety briefings are thorough and the entire operation is professional from start to finish.
Best combined with a Baecation Mara lodge package: The balloon safari works best as part of a 3-day Mara stay — combining the aerial experience with game drives, a Maasai cultural visit, and a private lodge dinner creates the most complete Maasai Mara honeymoon or anniversary experience available. Ask Baecation Adventures to bundle your balloon flight with your lodge package.
