The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust opens its Nairobi nursery to visitors for exactly one hour a day, 11am in the morning until 12noon. Inside that hour, keepers bring the orphaned elephants in for their midday bottle and a proper roll in the mud, while a head keeper tells you the story behind each one, most of them here because of poaching or a long drought back home.
This tour is built for couples who want that hour without committing to a full day or a hotel stay. A private saloon car collects you from your Nairobi home or hotel, gets you to the gate in good time, and brings you back once the hour is done. No group, no shared van, no waiting on anyone else's schedule.
The Trust confirms every booking itself and takes none on the day, so we need at least a week's notice to secure your spot. Tell us your dates early and we will handle the rest.

The Nairobi Nursery: Run by the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust since 1977, the nursery cares for elephants who lost their mothers, most often to poaching or drought. It sits inside Nairobi National Park itself, near the Mbagathi Gate on Magadi Road.
The Public Hour: Once a day, from eleven until noon, the orphans come in for milk and mud while a keeper explains each one's story from behind a rope line. It is a quiet, close encounter, not a show.
Your Private Saloon Car: A saloon car with a driver collects you, waits through the visit, and returns you to your starting point. No shared seats and no fixed group departure time to work around.
Booked in Advance: The Trust runs this by reservation only and confirms every booking itself. We handle that on your behalf once you confirm your date.

Morning: Pickup
Your driver collects you from your Nairobi home or hotel with enough time to reach the gate by about 10:45 am, since arriving early matters more here than almost anywhere else on this site.
11:00 am: The Public Hour
Stand at the rope line as the orphaned elephants come in for their milk and a mud bath. A head keeper introduces each one and tells their story. The hour goes quickly, most visitors say it feels shorter than it is.
After Noon: Back On Your Way
Your driver is waiting when the gate opens back up.
From here you can head straight back, or extend the morning with the Giraffe Centre or a Nairobi National Park game drive, both available in the Add Ons tab.
