Mid-Range Safaris

There are places on this earth that feel like they belong to another time. The Maasai Mara is one of them. Standing on the edge of the Mara plains at dawn, watching the grassland stretch to every horizon as the light turns gold and the first lions begin to stir — you will feel something shift inside you. Something quiet and permanent. The kind of thing that happens only when you are somewhere truly extraordinary, with someone truly important.

This 3-day, 2-night Maasai Mara Mid-Range Safari is Baecation Adventures' most popular safari package, and it is not hard to understand why. The Maasai Mara National Reserve is home to the greatest concentration of wildlife in Africa — lions, leopards, cheetahs, elephants, buffalo, hippos, and during the months of July to October, the awe-inspiring Great Migration, when over 1.5 million wildebeest cross the Mara River in one of nature's most dramatic performances.

You depart Nairobi early morning in a comfortable 4WD safari van provided in partnership with our sister company BAMM Tours, with a professional guide who knows the Mara's rhythms and secrets. The drive west takes you through the Great Rift Valley escarpment — one of Kenya's most dramatic road journeys — arriving at the Mara in time for an afternoon game drive that sets the tone for everything that follows.

Day two is a full day inside the reserve. Two game drives. A visit to a traditional Maasai manyatta where warriors in full ochre and scarlet welcome you into their homestead and share stories of a culture that has stewarded this land for generations. An evening watching the sun burn itself out over the Mara Triangle, turning the sky colours you have no name for.

By day three you will have seen things that most people only see in documentaries. More importantly, you will have seen them together.

Package Itinerary

The package itinerary is as follows

3 Days 2 Nights — Maasai Mara Mid-Range Safari with Baecation Adventures Kenya

Day 1: Nairobi to Maasai Mara — The Drive That Changes Everything
Your Baecation Adventures driver and professional safari guide picks you up from your Nairobi location early morning in a comfortable 4WD safari van.
Depart Nairobi heading west — the city giving way quickly to the open countryside of Narok County.
Dramatic descent down the Great Rift Valley escarpment — one of Kenya's most breathtaking road views. Stop briefly for photos at the viewpoint.
Continue through Narok town and into the Maasai heartland — acacia trees, Maasai herders with their cattle, and the first sense that you are entering somewhere ancient and alive.
Arrive at the Maasai Mara National Reserve — approximately 5 to 6 hours from Nairobi.
Check in at your mid-range lodge and settle into your room.
Afternoon game drive — your first encounter with the Mara's extraordinary wildlife. Lions are often spotted near the lodge in late afternoon.
Return for sundowner drinks as the Mara sky turns every shade of red and orange.
Full board dinner at the lodge.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Day 2: Full Day in the Mara & Maasai Cultural Visit
Early morning wake-up — the Mara at dawn is something you do not miss.
Full breakfast at the lodge.
Morning game drive — the best time for predator sightings. Cheetahs on termite mounds scanning the plains. Leopards in acacia trees. Lion prides moving through the golden grass. During July to October, the Mara River crossing of the wildebeest migration may be witnessed — one of the most extraordinary wildlife events on earth.
Return to lodge for lunch.
Afternoon: guided visit to a traditional Maasai manyatta — warriors welcome you with the adamu jumping dance, women demonstrate their intricate beadwork, and elders share the stories and values of a culture that has lived alongside this wildlife for centuries.
Late afternoon game drive — elephants and hippos are active as the heat fades.
Full board dinner at the lodge under a vast, star-filled Mara sky.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Day 3: Dawn Game Drive & Return to Nairobi
Early morning game drive — one final hour in the Mara at the most magical time of day.

Check out and begin the road journey back to Nairobi.
Scenic drive back through the Rift Valley escarpment.
Arrive back in Nairobi in the late afternoon.
