Masai Mara Flying Safaris – 45 Minutes from Nairobi, Big Five & Great Migration | 3 Days 2 Nights

Kenya Flying Safaris

There are two ways to get to the Masai Mara. The road takes 6 hours - dusty, bumpy, and beautiful in its own way, but six hours. The plane takes 45 minutes. One minute you are watching Nairobi's skyline disappear beneath the wing. The next, you are crossing the Rift Valley escarpment — one of the most dramatic aerial views in the world — and then the Mara opens up below you: endless golden grassland, the Mara River cutting through it, and somewhere down there, the lions and elephants and cheetahs that make this reserve the most famous wildlife destination on Earth.

Baecation's Masai Mara Flying Safaris is designed for couples who want to make the absolute most of their time in the Mara. By flying in on Safarilink or AirKenya from Nairobi Wilson Airport, you bypass the road entirely and arrive at your lodge in time for an afternoon game drive on day one — giving you a full extra day of safari compared to a road package of the same length. Three days, two nights, and every hour of it spent exactly where you want to be: in the Mara.

Your base is Mara Sopa Lodge — a well-appointed mid-range lodge inside the Maasai Mara National Reserve with excellent game drive access, a swimming pool, and the kind of reliable comfort that means you wake up thinking about the wildlife, not the accommodation. Game drives operate in the early morning and late afternoon — the two windows when predators are most active and the light is most extraordinary for photography.

If the timing is right, the Great Migration — 1.5 million wildebeest, 500,000 zebra, and the predators that follow them — moves through the Mara between July and October in one of nature's most dramatic performances. But the Mara delivers year-round: lions are resident, leopards hunt from the riverine trees, cheetahs raise their cubs on the open plains, and the elephant herds move through at their own ancient pace regardless of the calendar.

About Package

More information about this package

45 minutes from Nairobi — not 6 hours: Safarilink and AirKenya operate multiple daily scheduled flights from Nairobi Wilson Airport to Maasai Mara airstrips. The flight takes approximately 45 minutes, crosses the Great Rift Valley escarpment with aerial views that are spectacular in their own right, and delivers you to your lodge in time for an afternoon game drive on arrival day — a full day of safari that road packages simply cannot match.

Mara Sopa Lodge — inside the reserve, excellent game drive access: Mara Sopa Lodge sits inside the Maasai Mara National Reserve with direct access to the reserve's most productive game drive areas. The lodge has a swimming pool, full board dining, and comfortable rooms — a reliable mid-range base that keeps the focus firmly on the wildlife outside rather than the facilities inside.

Year-round wildlife — not just during the Migration: The Maasai Mara supports resident populations of lion, leopard, cheetah, elephant, buffalo, hippo, and giraffe throughout the year. The Great Migration (July–October) adds 1.5 million wildebeest and the famous Mara River crossings to this already extraordinary cast — but the Mara delivers world-class game viewing in every month of the calendar.

Soft luggage only — 15kg maximum per person: Small aircraft have strict baggage restrictions. Safarilink and AirKenya allow 15kg per person including hand luggage, in soft duffel-style bags. Hard suitcases cannot be accommodated. Secure storage is available at Wilson Airport for approximately $5 per bag per day if needed.

Luxury conservancy upgrades available: For couples wanting exclusive conservancy access, night drives, and off-road game viewing, Baecation can upgrade this package to a private conservancy lodge — Porini Mara Camp in Ol Kinyei Conservancy, Entim Mara Camp, or Acacia House in Mara North. Contact us for conservancy upgrade pricing.
