Solio Lodge is the only accommodation on the private Solio Game Reserve, tucked in the valley between Mount Kenya and the Aberdare Mountains. Six cottages — each individually designed, each enormous — with large picture windows and private verandas that face outward across the open conservancy toward the mountains. Inside, a roaring log fire in every living room. Outside, rhinos grazing in the afternoon light. The combination is one of the most quietly extraordinary safari experiences in Kenya.
The 6 huge and luxurious rooms have been built with enormous glass windows to give incredible panoramic views of the rolling hills and Mount Kenya. The rooms all have their own living area complete with a roaring log fire and a huge bathroom. Each room is designed individually so no two are the same.
This is not a camp. It is a home — one that happens to sit inside one of Africa's most important conservation landscapes. Your stay is fully inclusive: all meals prepared from fresh farm ingredients, house wines and spirits, game drives with exclusive use of your vehicle, horse riding, mountain biking, walking, bush breakfasts, sundowners, and a day excursion into the Aberdare National Park. The only lodge on Africa's most successful private rhino breeding reserve: Only capable of accommodating 12 guests, the 6 cottages are very spacious with large windows to complement the view. Private sundecks look out onto the game sanctuary and provide tranquil and secluded spaces for you to relax. With just twelve guests sharing a 45,000-acre private reserve, every game drive is exclusive and unhurried.
Six individually designed cottages with log fires and panoramic mountain views: No two cottages at Solio are identical — each has its own character, its own arrangement of rooms, and its own angle on the Mount Kenya and Aberdares panorama. Every cottage has a large living room with a roaring log fire, an enormous en-suite bathroom, and a private veranda facing the open conservancy.
Up to 40 rhinos visible in a single game drive: No other destination in Kenya offers the same density and reliability of rhino sightings, especially for guests who want close, uninterrupted encounters. Both black and white rhino roam freely across the reserve alongside lion, leopard, cheetah, buffalo, reticulated giraffe, and eland — all without national park vehicle restrictions or other tourist traffic.
Fully inclusive — exclusive vehicle, horse riding, mountain biking & Aberdares excursion: Every stay includes exclusive use of a game drive vehicle per group, day and night drives, guided walks, horse riding across the ranch, mountain biking, bush breakfasts, sundowners, all meals and house drinks. A full-day excursion to the Aberdare National Park — famous for its elephants, bongo antelope, and dramatic highland forests — is included (park entry fees extra).
Farm-to-fork dining with fresh produce from local farms: Meals are crafted using fresh produce, including vegetables and herbs sourced from nearby farms. The lodge's dining experience reflects the farm's own produce alongside the finest ingredients from surrounding Laikipia communities — served in the main lodge or as a private bush breakfast in the conservancy.

Day 1: Nairobi to Solio Lodge — Into the Rhino Sanctuary
Transfer to Nairobi Wilson Airport.
Scheduled flight to Nanyuki Airstrip — approximately 40 minutes with Mount Kenya growing through the window as you descend.
45-minute road transfer to Solio Lodge — your first wildlife sightings as you enter the conservancy gate.
Check in to your cottage — log fire lit, flowers and welcome treats on arrival.
Afternoon game drive through the Solio Reserve — first encounters with the rhino herds and abundant plains game.
Sundowner in the conservancy as the Aberdares catch the last light.
Full board dinner at the main lodge.

Day 2: Full Day Rhino Safari, Horse Riding & Night Drive
Pre-dawn wake up — Solio at dawn is extraordinary, with rhinos silhouetted against the mountain.
Early morning game drive — the best time for large rhino concentrations at the waterholes.
Full breakfast at the lodge.
Mid-morning horse riding across the open ranch — moving through the conservancy alongside wildlife at a pace no vehicle can replicate.
Picnic bush lunch in the field.
Afternoon mountain biking or guided nature walk through the highland bush.
Evening sundowner on the plains.
Night game drive — Solio's private land permits night drives unavailable in national parks.
Full board dinner at the lodge by log fire.

Day 3: Aberdare National Park Excursion & Private Dinner
Early morning game drive in Solio Reserve.

Full-day excursion to the Aberdare National Park — dramatic highland forest, elephant herds, buffalo, the rare bongo antelope, and the chance to fish in the mountain rivers (fishing licence $10 PP extra).
Return to Solio Lodge for dinner.
