The Masai Mara is the single most recognisable safari destination in Kenya, and for good reason.

If you visit between July and October, you’ll witness the Great Migration. Getting There, Honestly
One thing we insist on getting right, because too many operators do not, is the real travel time from Nairobi.
The Masai Mara is often quoted at around 142 kilometres and roughly 5 hours from Nairobi. However, that figure describes the drive to Narok town, the last major stop before the reserve itself, not the drive into the reserve where the lodges actually sit.
Our anchor property, Keekorok Lodge, sits well inside the reserve boundary. As a result, the honest number from Nairobi to Keekorok is closer to 270 kilometres and 5 to 6 hours by road.
For this reason, we build every itinerary around that real number: a single pickup time on day one, and a rest stop in Narok along the way, rather than pretending the trip is shorter than it is.
Alternatively, if a long road transfer is not for you, a genuine flight alternative exists. Safarilink, AirKenya, Fly540 and Jambo Jet all operate scheduled flights from Wilson Airport in Nairobi to airstrips serving the Mara, with a flight time of around 45 to 60 minutes.
